In 1925, the collection of the State Archaeological Museum in Warsaw received a set of archaeological artifacts originating from the barrow cemetery Navasiolki (Polish name Nowosiółki), Miadziel district, Minsk region, Republic of Belarus. Archaeological excavations of the barrow cemetery Navasiolki were carried out in 1961–1962 and 1988–1990, as a result 35 burial barrows were studied in the necropolis. An analysis of the excavation materials made it possible to identify two cultural and chronological horizons in the functioning of the necropolis. The first of them includes two barrows, which date back to the third quarter of the 1st millennium. The second horizon of the necropolis includes 30 burial mounds of the 11th – the first half or the middle of the 12th century. The second cultural and chronological horizon of the barrow cemetery Navasiolki belonged to the population of the local administrative center, whose inhabitants exercised control over the local population on the western border of the Polack Land. The antler container also belongs to the second cultural-chronological horizon. Similar T-shaped antler containers were well known in Central, Eastern and Southern Europe during the 7th – 12th centuries and were probably used to store different substances (for example, salt, herbs, spices, tinder) that needed to be protected from getting wet. Despite the fact that the true function of antler containers remains debatable, almost all researchers agree that they are among the elite objects of material culture.
